Gabriela Canel was born in Cuernavaca, Mexico and immigrated to the United States as a child. A self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist, her work is influenced by the vibrant culture and colors of her hometown, through the lens of displacement, cultural assimilation, alienation, and eventual celebration of identity. While ceramics forms the foundation of her artistic practice, her work continues to evolve, exploring new mediums and ways to engage with the complexities of her personal experiences and cultural traditions.

She has a master’s degree in accounting and is a licensed CPA. So she could do your taxes but would rather just play in the mud.
